Lukas gave a public talk at the community science art project “Collective Neurogenesis” in Bonn, organized by Paula Urrutia, Diana Bungard, and the German Research Foundation (DFG). His talk focused on grid cells and was entitled “Wie das Gehirn Räume vermisst: Die geheimnisvollen Gitterzellen.”

Lukas gave a talk on “Investigating cognitive maps using human single-unit recordings” in the Neuropsychology Talk series at Ruhr University Bochum.

We attended the BonnBrain conference 2026! This was a fantastic conference with keynotes by Edvard Moser (who presented fascinating results on theta-sweeps in grid cells), Cori Bargmann, Rosa Paolicelli, Maude Baldwin, and Zachary Knight. We also very much enjoyed Dmitriy Aronov’s talk on episodic memory processes in food-caching birds. David presented his findings on social distance coding from single-unit recordings in epilepsy patients.

The Bonn Spatial Memory Lab is pleased to welcome Lorenz Jaek as a new member of the lab!

David attended the annual meeting of the DGKN (Deutsche Gesellschaft für klinische Neurophysiologie und funktionelle Bildgebung; German Society for Clinical Neurophysiology and Functional Imaging) and presented a talk on distance coding in the human medial temporal lobe. He also shared a clinical video featuring an intriguing seizure semiology in the Video & Diagnostic Forum, and received a 1st prize in this forum.

Lukas visited the labs of Andrej Bicanski and Christian Doeller at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig. This enabled many exciting discussions with their lab members on cognitive maps, neural computations related to spatial navigation, and human ripples - especially with Fei Wang, Marit Petzka, Zhiming Jia, Yangwen Xu, Qiaoli Huang, Max Hinrichs, and Salma Elnagar. Many thanks for the invitation and the hospitality!

Lukas took part in the first Synergy Forum at the “IMPULSE - House for Intellectual Innovation and Creativity” of the University of Bonn and gave a presentation on his work using human single-unit recordings. This Synergy Forum was a networking event designed to bring together researchers from across faculties and spark unexpected, interdisciplinary collaborations.
