Tim, Philipp, David, Laura, and Lukas attended the Human Single-Neuron Meeting 2025 in Pasadena, and SfN 2025 in San Diego. This was a fantastic experience, including many exciting discussions with the lab of Florian Mormann, with whom we shared our apartments!

Lukas gave a talk at the Graduate School Meeting 2025, “Advances across Scales and Systems”, of the International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS) Molecular Biomedicine in Münster, Germany.

We went on a nice boat trip for our yearly lab outing!

Lukas visited the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience in Amsterdam and was part of the doctorate committee of Doris Dijksterhuis. Many congratulations to Doris for successfully defending her thesis!

Lukas also gave a talk for the labs of Pieter Roelfsema and Eus van Someren on his human single-neuron work with Salman Qasim.

Our new paper on “Theta-phase locking of single neurons during human spatial memory” with Tim as first author is online! Using single-neuron recordings in epilepsy patients performing a spatial memory task, we describe how individual neurons in the human medial temporal lobe spike at particular phases of the local field potential.

Our new paper on allocentric and egocentric cognitive maps in human spatial memory with Laura as first author is online! In this behavioral study, we describe various determinants of allocentric and egocentric spatial memory. The paper is part of the Special Issue “Maps in the Brain: from Definitions to Measurement and Applications,” published by Neuropsychologia, of which Lukas is a Guest Editor.

Tim participated in a three-week CAJAL Summer School on NeuroAI held at the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown in Lisbon, Portugal. This new program brought together an interdisciplinary group of researchers to explore how deep learning can be used to analyze and model brain activity and behavior.
